ECFMG
Sets Up Advisors Network for IMGs
The Educational
Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the organization that
administers the J-1 program for foreign physicians coming for residency
programs, has announced the creation of a new program designed to
connect doctors planning on coming to train in the
US
with other international physicians who have successfully entered or
completed
US
training.
The
IMG Advisors Network (IAN) is the first of ECFMG’s plans to help
IMG’s make the transition to living and working in the
U.S.
Through the program,
IMG’s coming to the U.S. will be able to access an online network of
advisors to discuss topics such as finding a home, setting up personal
finances, getting a driver’s license, relocation issues related to
spouses and children, American culture, etc.
ECFMG
is currently in the process of building its database of advisors and is
seeking ECFMG certified IMG physicians who are willing to serve as
volunteer advisors to IMG’s who will enter
U.S.
training programs. Questions
about the advisors network can be addressed to ian.advisor@ecfmg.org.
