Congrats to Mexican-born director Alejandro González Iñárritu for his Academy Award for Birdman. Iñárritu has had a distinguished career making films in both English and Spanish including 21 Grams (filmed in my home town of Memphis) and Babel. The film, his creation, also won the Best Picture category capping off a great evening for the filmmaker.During his remarks at the end of the Oscars, he closed the show saying “I pray that we [people living in Mexico] can find and build a government that we deserve – and for the ones who live in the USA, I pray that they can be treated with the same respect as the ones who came before, and help to continue building this great immigrant nation.” Bravo, Mr. Iñárritu.
