John S. Richbourg graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis , Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1974. While in law school he was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa Men’s Honorary Leadership Fraternity, served as president of Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity, was named to Who’s Who among American College and University Students, and was a member of the National Moot Court Team. He has recently been named to Who’s Who among American Attorneys. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Memphis Bar Association and is the former staff attorney for the Community Legal Center’s Immigrant Justice Program, which provides pro bono legal representation to poor immigrants in the Memphis Immigration Court.  In 2010, the Community Legal Center presented him with the Award for Excellence of Service for his generous commitment of time, support and inspiration to the endeavors of the organization.  He is the secretary of the board of Latino Memphis, an association that advocates for the betterment of the Hispanic Community in the Memphis area. 

Mr. Richbourg has been a presenter at the Annual Meeting of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is the author of Security and Liberty: The Yin and Yang of Immigration Law, an article appearing in the Spring 2003 issue of the University of Memphis Law Review.  The State of Tennessee has certified him as a Civil Trial Specialist and he has written many articles for local newspapers advocating immigrant rights.  The principal emphases of his practice are the areas of relief from removal and federal litigation and appeals.
