St. George's Episcopal Church
Austin, Texas
www.sgchurch.org
Content comes alive with sgchurch.org's inviting writing, clear navigation, and crisp design.
Newcomers are invited to "spend some time on the website to get an idea for the character of the community" and commencing with Who We Are, visitors get a warm welcome from St. George's. "If you are curious, look for answers here. If you have been hurt, look for comfort. If you are joyous, look for us to join you in song."
"...but the best way," newcomers are told, "to find out who we are is to join us for a worship service on Sunday morning." In case that sounds daunting, the Episcopal Worship page offers an excellent introduction to Anglican liturgy and Joining St. George's breaks down the process of becoming part of this community.
St. George's Story spins a tale of a church "founded on the boundless enthusiasm" of Bishop John Hines (our 22nd Presiding Bishop) who "arranged for the purchase and relocation (under the cover of night, in a dash across the main runway of Austin's airport) of a surplus army chapel... onto property newly purchased by the young congregation."
This website also demonstrates the "character of its community" by delivering valuable content to its congregation members, including the rector's Sermons (available "via email as soon as they are prepared"), Music for the upcoming Sunday, the Lay Ministry Schedule, bi-monthly newsletter, church Calendar, compendium of Ministries, and much more... take a look!
