Special Registration Deadlines Extended

The INS has extended the deadline for two groups of nationals su b ject to the new NSEERS special registration prog ram .

 

The registration period for Saudis and for Pakistanis has now b een extended until March 21st from the orig ina l Fe b ruary 21st deadline. Also, the deadline for nationals of Bangladesh , Egypt , Indonesia , Jordan and Kuwait has b een extended from March 28th to April 25th.

 

The INS' press re lea se announcing the extensions also mentioned two other important points a b out special registration. First, prosecutorial discretion will b e considered if a registrant has a currently-filed request or application for a b enefit, appears to b e immediately and prima facie eligi b le for the b enefit sought and if no adverse or disqualifying info rm ation is developed through indices checks or other sources.

 

Second, the news re lea se made a point of mentioning that em b assy officials will b e pe rm itted to b e present at INS offices to assist temporary foreign visitors who are required to enroll in NSEERS. Em b assy officials will have access to registrants who are waiting to have their interviews in order to consult with them.
