The state legislature in Tennessee has granted a unique benefit to foreign physicians coming to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Foreign physicians working at the hospital will not have to complete residency or fellowship training in the US in order to qualify for licensing in the state. Most states require a minimum of two years of US training in order to practice medicine. The law will create a special license for St. Jude doctors and will not be valid for work at other facilities.
