Law enforcement officials recently revealed that the roommate of Mohammed Atta, who was responsible for funding the hijackers while in the US, was kept from the US, but that his money transfers were never tracked. They say that Ramzi Bin al-Shibh was originally to be one of the hijackers, but was replaced, officials believe with Zacarias Moussaoui, when he could not obtain a visa to enter the US. Each time Bin al-Shebh’s visa applications were denied because he could not prove that he would not overstay his visa. He is named as an unindicted coconspirator in court papers, and is the subject of an international manhunt.
