Those of you who have visited our web site lately already know that a great deal has changed at our law firm. We have recently added several new attorneys and a new office in Toronto, Canada as well as changed our name from Siskind and Susser to Siskind, Susser, Haas & Chang. The additional personnel means we can provide better service and more information to our readers. We have already added a new feature, “From the Canadian Office,” a monthly summary of immigration issues of particular importance to Canadians seeking entry to the US as well as information relevant to people interested in immigrating to Canada. The feature will be written by Henry Chang, our partner in our Toronto office.
This month’s issue provides continuing coverage of the movement in Congress to modify the immigration system. Congress has passed and the President is expected to sign an anti-terrorism bill that has the unexpected side effect of toughening deportation and exclusion rules for many who do not have any connection to terrorist groups. The Senate has passed significant immigration legislation as well and now must work out a compromise with the House of Representatives if a bill is going to be passed this year.
In our regular features, we report on new J-1 visa regulations affecting extension applications for professors and scholars, consulate procedures in Paris, France and visa rules for representatives of foreign media organizations. And, as always, we provide the latest State Department and INS processing time reports.
