The AP has an interesting article on a growing problem hospitals around the country are facing. They are mandated to provide emergency care, but no one wants to pay them. In many cases, they are left treating patients at the cost of thousands of dollars a day with no reimbursement. On the other hand, sending patients home presents challenges as reported in this article. The best solution is probably one that allows patients to stay, but for the hospitals to not be unfairly saddled with the costs. Home countries, American employers, and, yes, US taxpayers who have benefited from the work of these people, should all be chipping in to help pay for the appropriate care.
