Fortune Magazine writes about how the country’s physician shortage is getting worse and rightly points out that the tightly controlled pool of residency slots is making it difficult to solve the problem. International Medical Graduates are an important part of a comprehensive solution to the shortage that includes graduating more American medical students, shifting more work to nurse practitioners and physician assistants, creating incentives for doctors to go in to fields with the worse shortages, and, importantly, dramatically increasing residency slots.
