Modern Healthcare reports that hospitals around the US are facing increasing pressures on nurse hiring because of a strengthening US economy. During the recession, many non-practicing nurses re-entered the profession and as the job market strengthens overall, many of those nurses are exiting the market. MH reports that many employers are relying on contract labor. In the past, contractors relied on foreign nurse labor. However, a lack of a non-immigrant visa has made it very difficult to use the immigration system to address nursing shortages.
