The first lucky winners of this past June’s DV-1 Lottery have begun to receive their information packets. According to the State Department, 6.5 million valid entries were placed in the random computer drawing. Those selected will be eligible to receive the 55,000 DV-1 visas allocated for this fiscal year. Approximately 110,000 names will be drawn because the State Department presumes that many people will choose not to pursue their applications. Because more winners may pursue the DV-1 visa than the 55,000 allotment, it is best to act as quickly as possible. Those not selected for the lottery will not be notified.
