The Immigration and Nationality Act limits to 10,000 the number of asylum holders who can receive green cards after one year in asylum status. As of March 6, 1998, the limit for fiscal year 1998 was met and no further adjustments will be approved for asylees until October 1, 1998. No comment has yet been released by INS regarding adjustment of status applications currently pending for asylees. However, if asylees are treated as other groups that are in categories where visa numbers suddenly became unavailable, it is likely they will continue to receive work authorization and advanced parole documents.
