With this month’s issue, Siskind, Susser, Haas and Chang is pleased to announce the addition of our new Knoxville, Tennessee office. Staffed by attorney Anita Patel, the office will service eastern Tennessee, western Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Kentucky. Currently, there are just a handful of immigration lawyers in this area. Ms. Patel, an immigrant herself, is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Law. We also are happy to announce the addition of attorney Philip Smith in our Nashville-Bellevue, Tennessee office. Mr. Smith, who leaves a solo immigration practice, previously worked for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland.

In this month’s issue, we report on further developments in the implementation of the 1996 Immigration Act, changes to the State Department 900 number appointment system for consulates in Canada and Mexico, an important interpretation on waivers of the J-1 home residency requirement, as well as all of our usual features.
