The federal government recently released statistics on the number of noncitizens in federal detention during fiscal year 1994 to 2001.  The numbers show a dramatic increase not only in the number of people in INS custody, but also in the number of noncitizens incarcerated in federal prisons.  The following tables break down the detained and incarcerated noncitizen population.

“Other” includes medical facilities, juvenile facilities, and non-institutional facilities such as hotels.
