The INS has finally launched its online case status check system which is designed to complement its overburdened INS Direct automated telephone system. The site is located at https://egov.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/cris/jsps/caseStat.jsp. This news will no doubt be welcome especially for people who have grown tired of having to contend with constant busy signals at INS Service Centers and a confusing telephone menu once you are finally in.
According to the INS, the system will serve to provide customers and their lawyers access to case status information for applications submitted to the INS’ Regional Service Centers. The site is online 24 hours a day and will be able to handle a much larger volume of requests than the INS Direct telephone system can. The information available on the site is the same information available in the automated telephone system. The only information necessary to retrieve case status information is the case number from the filing receipt.
The new site only provides information on cases pending at INS Service Centers and not local offices or other INS locations. The information is currently available in English as well as Spanish.
