Canadian Permanent Resident Cards

Beginning June 28, 2002 all new Canadian landed immigrants (permanent residents) upon entry into Canada will have to apply for a permanent resident card.

The permanent resident card (PR card) is a new wallet-sized, plastic card. The card replaces the IMM1000.

Starting December 31, 2003 ALL landed immigrants entering Canada must have applied for and obtained a PR card. PR cards will be available to landed immigrants upon application only. It is the landed immigrants responsibility to apply for the PR cards.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada will process applications according to a published schedule based on the applicant’s year of landing.
