Congratulations to South African-born Trevor Noah who has been tapped to replace Jon Stewart on the Daily Show after he steps down later this year. The 31-year-old Noah has only been a correspondent on America’s favorite fake news show since December, but his three appearances have been memorable.

Though Noah is a new face in the US, he’s already experienced hosting a successful late night talk show in South Africa and he has been a popular comic around the world since making his debut in 2009. Trevor Noah’s background itself is interesting. He jokes that his birth was a crime and he is literally correct. His mother, a black South African was jailed for marrying Noah’s white Swiss father. Noah grew up in Soweto during Apartheid and makes race relations a prominent part of his stand up routines.

Best of luck to this soon to be household name.
