The INS has begun issuing new employment authorization cards under the title Form I-766. The more than 700,000 holders of existing I-688B employment authorization documents do not need to replace their cards. Those cards will remain valid until their expiration dates and will be replaced by the new cards at the time of renewal. The INS is introducing the new card because it is considered to be more counterfeit resistant than the I-688B cards and contains additional security features. In addition, the cards have a higher resolution photograph, holograms, and microprinting. The cards have bar coding on the back. The Immigration and Naturalization Service web site (www.usdoj.gov/ins) contains additional information as well as a picture of the new card.
