The INS this week announced that it has detained a man who was a roommate of at least two of the September 11th hijackers. Rasmi Al-Shannaq, a citizen of Jordan, is in custody and faces deportation for overstaying his visa. Officials do not know if he has any direct knowledge of the planning of the September attacks, but want to know if he ever heard anything that might lead to other possible plots.

A Saudi Arabian man already in custody on theft charges was this week accused of taking English language proficiency exams for more than 50 people. According to an affidavit filed with the court, officials also found “items possibly related to planned acts of terrorism” during a search of Saleh Ali Almari’s home.
