Just before the end of the recent session of Congress, a bill was approved that reinstated the H-1A nurse program until September 30, 1997. The President has signed the bill and it is now law. The extension only covers those nurses in the US on H-1A visas on or after September 1, 1995. Those covered will have their visas automatically extended to September 30, 1997 even if their visas have already expired. H-1A nurses will not be allowed to change employers under the new law.
